Everybody goes on and on about how great a statesman Aatalbihari Vajpayee is but I have always had a contrary opinion.While facing a no confidence motion in the Lok Sabha during his stint as PM for 13 days he had sold the Union Govt. to Enron. With Sena-BJP combine in power in the state the ruling combine renewed the state govts.
Ties with Enron by increasing the power purchase rates for the power bought by MSEB from Dabhol Power Corporation[Enron] as also giving a counter guarantee to DPC that in case of default in payments by MSEB for power purchased from DPC the Govt.of maharashtra stood guarantee for the payments due to DPC.So far so good,bcoz MSEB is a state govt.entity. But Vajpayee as PM even when facing a no-confidence motion in parliament passed an ordinance guaranteeing payment to DPC in the event of the Maharashtra state govt.defaulting in its payments towards DPC.Why? What moral authority did he have to sign and pass such an ordinance when he was facing a no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha and the debate was on in the Lok Sabha.During his stint as PM in the BJP/NDA's 13 month rule.
He chose to remain silent about Pak incursions into India which went on for 6 months and went public and retaliated against Pakistan in Kargil once the elections were announced, knowing fully well that they would come back to power bcoz of the victory achieved in Kargil.So what if we had to loose a few hundred soldiers in that short war in Kargil. Anything is OK for the BJP to gain power. His golden silence in the Gujarat Riots of 2002 make him an accomplice of Narendra Modi and he should also be booked for allowing the genocide to happen during his reign as PM.
